How did this patient hear about Chatham Hills? Patient has a talk radio show and was interested in interviewing our marketing director. Before she was able to conduct the interview, she had a fall and needed rehabilitation.
Details of Experience:
Patient was admitted to Chatham Hills Subacute Care Center with a diagnosis of L4 injury of lumbar spinal cord with difficulty walking and muscle weakness who presented to the hospital initially after suffering a fall in the community. The patient developed severe pain in the neck and lower back resulting in decreased weakness, decreased functional mobility and increased assistance in activities of daily living. On assessment, patient was noted to have a foot drop on the ride side requiring an orthotic device during initial gait training sessions. To reduce pain, the patient received soft tissue massage with biofreeze followed by cryotherapy. The patient then performed leg exercises on the Omnicycle to increase her range of motion, endurance in the lower extremities as well as increasing strength. Therapy had her focus on weight training progressing from 0 pounds and active assistive range of motion for hip flexion and knee extension to 2.5 pounds with still a need for active assistive range of motion to right hip flexion at time of discharge. Patient improved with ambulation from minimal assistance with short distances to ambulation at modified independent level using a rolling walker throughout the facility at the time of discharge.
Patient was a pleasure to have with us at Chatham Hills Subacute. She had a positive disposition and no matter what challenge came her way she was still determined to walk out of here. She always gave us positive feedback and on more than one occasion was happy to give a testimonial as to how much she loved us.
