Details of Experience:

Patient was admitted to Chatham Hills Subacute Care Center with a diagnosis of Sepsis, Pneumonia, and Muscle Weakness who presented to the hospital initially after suffering shortness of breath. She was admitted to the hospital in a state of confusion with trouble breathing. She came to us on antibiotic intravenous therapy for her Sepsis. She was unable to ambulate at all due to the overwhelming amount of swelling in her legs. Her edema and dyspnea started to improve upon exertion. Even though she was still having periods of pain, fever and chills there was vast improvement over time.

It was important for the patient to achieve several goals before being discharged. These included lower extremity strengthening and balance. This was achieved with seated leg exercises and standing exercises. The rehabilitation department worked with her twice a day and successfully reached the goal of discharging the patient with a rolling walker. She excelled in physical and occupational therapy making excellent progress in a very short period of time. Patient was alert and oriented upon discharge and was extremely happy to go home with her husband.
